Italian language nostalgia

Tutto si muove, non riesco a stare fermo
Tremando ti cerco in tutti i canali.
È alta tensione ma senza orientamento.
Sbandando ti seguo in tutti i segnali. Continue reading ‘Italian language nostalgia’

Strade che si lasciano guidare forte

Se tutto ciò che cerco nasconde un movimento
Quale destinazione può incontrarci

Se in tutto ciò che inquadro il senso è già sfocato
Qual è l’angolazione per fissarci

U2 – today in Berlin!

am88114

Today U2 will be playing at the Brandenburg Gate! I wish I was there…Achtung Baby is one of my favorite albums. This is how U2 decided to participate to the EMA MTV awards…classy!

20 years since the fall of the Berlin wall, 16 years since my first U2 concert. Fond Zoo TV Tour memories, June 1993. I passed out in the crowd at Hyppodrome de Vincennes during Velvet Underground reunion tour supporting intro and was “floated’ above the crowd to the emergency site. Some sugar and hydration later (I had spent 6 hours under the baking sun) and I was back in the crowd just in time for the start of the U2 concert. Trabant flying and beaming…”Lemon”, my favorite U2 disco-dance hit!

No public transport available when the concert ended…thousands of people stranded in the dark in the middle of the road works of east Paris, out of the peripherique…hitch-hiked and walked back to Paris XVIIeme where I was living at the time. Abenteuer in Zooropa…

Now that I think of it, my top 3 favorite musicians have something to do with Berlin: Bowie, Depeche Mode, U2. Therefore I suggest that Subsonica moves to Neukoelln for its next album…from the murazzi on the Po to the banks of the Spree!

On the margin of tonight’s event Der Spiegel reports on a controversial issue. Apparently A WALL will be blocking the view to people without the (free) tickets…hm…see below…this is not classy though…

For those who will be away from in Berlin, see the MTV website… Continue reading ‘U2 – today in Berlin!’

Breakfast at KaDeWe

Winter days…old movies and good novels. How many times did I repeat Holly Golightly’s words when watching Breakfast at Tiffany? I know it by heart…both the italian and the original version! And is the film better than Capote’s novel or the other way round…? Depends what mood you’re in!

At the Herder German Bookstore I discovered a gem the other day…”La ragazza di seta artificiale” (“Das kunstseidene Maedchen” “The artificial sik girl”) by Charlottenburg’s Irmgard Keun, published by FORUM 2008, with the Universita’ degli Studi di Udine – bravi!

Doris was there before Holly arrived…theater extra and demi-mondaine, she gets money for powdering her nose, she “gets” shoes and silk blouses…Yet, everything is different. It’s not NYC and the 60s but Berlin and the 30s. The apartments where she happens to be resident range from old Prussia uberfurnished to “full of dentist lamps” sleek Bauhaus.

Holly has just champagne in the fridge and eats breakfast from a brown bag on Fifth. Doris dreams about Schnitzel when men offer her cognac and 4 pfenning cigarettes. Holly holds on to the Cat, Doris to her Petit Gris. New York cannot possibly stand the competition with Berlin when it comes to ambiguity.

Still, both girls are “ambitious”, “must have a career”, “be a star”…and are trapped in melancholy, scared by time going by.

Do not miss this fabulous novel. Most of all for Doris’s view on men. It’s better than Sex and the City. It’s Sex und die Stadt.

Post Scriptum on Dec 31st

Extra louche flavour tonight.

Let’s drift in oneiric territory…Doris eventually became famous. A haunting Subsonic star…dissecting both heart and night – she’s our mistakes.
