Foxy night

P1190801

Coming home, not very late, we found ourselves face to face with a big, furry and cheeky fox. She was quite in good shape, with a big fluffy tail whose white tip glowed in the night. We stopped and stared at each other with interest for long minutes, her long ears communicating interest and not fear. When we cautiously moved forward to continue our way home, she crossed the street and continued to study us from behind the hedges of hte roundabout. Cheeky Schoneberg fox…the rabbit who crossed our path after a few steps looked nonchalant…and did not realise what furry danger was just nearby…

Reading Berlin

P1120662

Each time I am in Berlin I like to read local. In this case the book had been purchased at Hatchard’s in London, but that’s it, I like to schlepp books across Europe. If I have not a book when approaching public transport I feel naked. Kindle-free zone, yes.

“The Good German” is set in Berlin just after its liberation. “Leaving Berlin” takes place a few years after, in 1948. The plot is even more tangled. Not gentrified

P1020756

Some things change and evolve in Schoeneberg. A curtain shop has left. Not bad, they were not so nice. A notorious drugstore chain has left the spot to a scandinavian nondescript store, selling candles, brooms, neons and wigs.

P1020755

A chaotic bike store is in a transition phase. A frames designer has set up shop and makes eyewear haute couture. A new Troedel has open, but it’s too shiny for being interesting. But the backbone of the neighborhood is not changing that much. And this is good.
