the golden man

By chance, on New Year’s Eve MeinMann and I decided to view the movie “Woman in gold”, directed by Simon Curtis in 2015, starring Helen Mirren and Daniel Brühl. It seemed a good way for accompanying the Gemütlich and still peaceful atmosphere before the midnight firework craze eruption in our Berlin Kiez. Good movie, and interesting special content in that DVD…we were already thinking about Vienna for a nice weekend, and the movie reinforced our idea…

When in NYC in January, I seized the opportunity to go and see the portraits of Adele Bloch-Bauer at the Neue Galerie on Central Park.

Today I was at lunch with a Viennese colleague, and while discussing what to do in Vienna he casually referred – I promise, it was really by chance! – to Klimt and asked me whether I know “the Adele” painting.

– “Absolutely, and I could even see it live, recently”

– “And do you also know the story behind it?”

– “Indeed – I answered, feeling extremely well-prepared – not only I saw the popular movie…but I am also reading a book on this!”

– “No but I mean, the real story of the journalist, Hubertus Czernin? He was a relative of mine”

Wow. Interesting lunch break…Hubertus was really a man of gold, and this has nothing to do with money…
