Over the past week I had several meetings with many of my US clients. Always interesting conversations, being them over business or the economy.

Being them in Heidelberg or Berlin, most of the conversations were inspiring and interesting. I love my job and I particularly enjoy when I see face to face the counterparts.

But there has been an aspect which struck me this time. Especially in the Berlin meetings. When briefing chit-chatting about the city, and hitting to its demographic growth in an ageing Continent, in separate meetings different US people reacted with the same dismissive gesture “Oh, sure but it’s because of the refugees”.

Well no, the demographic growth of Berlin dates well before the October emergency situation (continuing now) linked with the Syrian conflict.

What strikes me is the fact that some of these people have daughters and sons studying in Berlin. It is really true that sometimes the mainstream is so strong that it even defies common sense…or the curiosity of looking beyond.
