40 years ago I was a child who was in bed with a flu when the bed started to shake really hard, and I opened my eyes, the lamp suspended over my bed was frantically oscillating right and left, hitting the ceiling.
May 6th 1976, Friuli earthquake, 1,000 deaths.
That event shook the nerves of us all kids. For a year long our teachers had to keep school doors and portals wide open, come wind or rain, because we needed to feel we could escape at any moment.
In a school in Trento, the noise of the earthquake during rehearsals of a choir.
TV footage…a woman says she could not stand due to the waves shaking the earth…a girl tells journalist Gianni Minà – speechless in seeing her so serious and stoic – that crying does not help, young people must organize themselves and rebuild “my world, my Friuli”.
And another terrible audio document of the earthquake, recorded by chance, with the background noises of the family living in that house, trying to get hold of each other and save themselves.
