km 0 trains

79NvS9hfkmd3K2BCH3X2_Tl72eJkfbmt4t8yenImKBVvK0kTmF0xjctABnaLJIm9Yeah I am in the tunnel of work work work so there are not so many German society trends that I can observe on the street. So I comment something I saw on my favorite channel now.

In Berlin, the famous S-bahn is going at last to order some decent trains. With air conditioned and anti-ice technology.

The good thing is that the order has been placed rather with a Berlin-based manufacturer – Siemens + Stadler – rather than with a low-cost, Emerging Markets-based one. This will cost more, initially, but the fall-out in terms of jobs in the city will be more relevant for Berlin. And the trains will be already on location, where they can be also better planned and understood.

This is Keynesian thinking. So, welcome the “buy local – 0 km” strategy, just like with salad and carrots.
