Barbara: stickers, ergo sum

Barbara is a sticker-graffiti artist active in Germany and today after a long Monday in the office, it was a refreshing discovery to get to know about her work on the NDR channel…

Barbara cannot shut up and she sticks her thoughts whenever something bugs her. Barbara may be a woman or a man, who cares. Barbara has Zivilcourage, speaks up. Barbara protect her / his / its anonimity and private life. Barbara is ironic and sarcastic. Barbara is also cute, at times.

Twenty five years ago in my photo-safari weekends were starting with the hunt for graffiti done by MissTic, a mystique artist who had similar witty spirit but was a bit more on the poetic and passionate side (“Tout achever sauf le désir” to name the first one I photographed) and less dry in humor. She used stencils and had a very distinctive style. Actually, I think she was the first ever woman graffiti artist whose work I followed.

To me, Barbara is beyond. She is the new Magritte, the 2-D Duchamp…a queen of détournement. And, being German, her play had to be with words!
